A look into how former Gamecocks are doing as MiLB seasons start to wind down

As the 2024 MiLB season starts to come to an end, here is a look at how former Gamecocks are performing. Through highs and lows, these players continue to make South Carolina baseball fans proud by performing at the next level.

Braylen Wimmer- Fresno Grizzlies

Recently with the Grizzlies, Wimmer helped push his team to victory with multiple big at bats on Sept. 7. Wimmer came up excelled at the plate with two doubles and one RBI for seven total bases.

However, the road has been up and down for Wimmer, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts the following game on Sept. 8. Currently, the shortstop is batting .285, slightly down from last seasons .383 average.

Jack Mahoney- Spokane Indians 

During game one of the Northwest League Finals, Mahoney collected seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings for the Indians. Prior, on Sept. 4, Mahoney registered two strikeouts in three innings pitched. He’s 6-7 on the year with a 3.90 ERA in 22 starts.

Cole Messina- Spokane Indians 

In 50 total at-bats, Messina has recorded seven hits with one homer and six RBIs. So far in September, Messina has seen 14-at bats with just one hit and two RBIs.

As for behind the plate, Messina has started in 14 games catching 129.1 total innings.

Eli Jones- Minnesota Twins 

In the minor leagues, Jones has still yet to be assigned a team or record any stats.

Garrett Gainey- Bowling Green Hot Rods

The Tampa Bay Rays assigned Gainey to their High-A affiliate the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Sept. 7. However, Gainey has not recorded any stats since.

Chris Veach- FCL Yankees 

As a member of the FCL Yankees, Veach has not recorded any stats since the 2024 MLB Draft.

Will Sanders- Tennessee Smokies 

After five months with the South Bend Cubs, Sanders was assigned to the Tennessee Smokies on Sept. 9. However on Sept. 16, the Smokies transferred Sanders to the Development List.

His first and only outing with the Smokies ended in a 6.75 ERA after just four innings on Sept. 15.

James Hicks- Corpus Christi Hooks 

Similarly to Sanders, Hicks has also found himself on the Development List for the Houston Astros. In his latest outing on Sept. 8, Hicks pitched to a 5.21 ERA over four innings. The next day Hicks was assigned the Development List.

Noah Hall- Brooklyn Cyclones 

In 2024, Hall finished the season with a 9.69 ERA before finding himself on the 60-day injury list. Most recently, Hall pitched one inning on Sept. 7 with one walk and no strikeouts.

Cade Austin- Tampa Tarpons 

In September, Austin has pitched just 2.1 innings total recording three strikeouts with one hit. Overall in his first season with the Tarpons, Austin has pitched 46.1 innings with 50 strikeouts as a reliever.

Brady Allen- Erie SeaWolves

At the plate, Allen has recently struggled making contact and getting on base. On Sept. 15, Allen went 1-for-4 and prior on Sept. 14, Allen went 0-for-3.

Overall, Allen is batting just .205 on the season with a .278 OBP.

Josiah Sightler- Greensboro Grasshoppers

Despite hitting 14 homers in 2024, Sightler is batting just .192 on the season. The inconsistent struggle is seen as he went 0-for-4 on Sept. 5. The following day, Sightler went 1-for-2 with a double and run scored.

Luke Berryhill- Sugar Land Space Cowboys

On July 24, the Space Cowboys released Berryhill and he remains unsigned. Prior to being released, Berryhill was batting .254 in 2024.

Julian Bosnic- Greensboro Grasshoppers

Bosnic was taken off the 7-day injury list on July 9 where he pitched a 6.19 ERA in just 0.2 innings. The lefty has since settled in after his injury recently pitching to a 3.03 ERA in two innings on Sept. 8.

Colin Burgess- West Michigan Whitecaps

The Whitecaps placed Burgess on the 60-day injury list on March 21, but Burgess has not been reactivated since.

Noah Campbell- Nashville Sounds

On Sept. 22, Campbell had a big night at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Overall in 2024, Campbell is batting .239 for Nashville.

Wes Clarke- Nashville Sounds

Alongside his former South Carolina teammate, Clarke has also had a few big recent at-bats. Also on Sept. 22, Clarke went 3-for-4 with one homer, his 18th of the season.

Carlos Cortes- Syracuse Mets

Cortes has recently shown signs of struggle at the plate for Syracuse. On Sept. 22, he went 0-for-4 and he went 1-for-5 on Sept. 20.

Eddy Demurias- Chattanooga Lookouts

Demurias was placed on the 60-day injury list on May 31 and has not been reactivated since by the Lookouts.

Thomas Farr- Chattanooga Lookouts

In his most recent outing, Farr recorded a 5.56 ERA over three innings. In September, Farr has 10 strikeouts over 11 innings.  

TJ Hopkins- Erie SeaWolves 

Hopkins will finish the season on the injury list after suffering an injury in early May. As a result, Hopkins underwent a right shoulder labrum repair procedure.

Brett Kerry- Salt Lake Bees 

Kerry was assigned to the Bees on Sept. 16 after spending time with the Rocket City Trash Pandas. In his first and only appearance as a Bee, Kerry pitched to a 5.95 ERA over the course of seven innings.

Daniel Lloyd- Aberdeen IronBirds

After less than one month with the IronBird, Lloyd was transferred to the Development List on Sept. 5. With four teams this season, he’s pitched to a 5.34 ERA over 57.1 innings.

Reid Morgan- Arkansas Travelers

As his team clinched a post season bid, Morgan pitched one inning on Sept. 15 and recorded one strikeout. Also on Sept. 7, Morgan threw 1.1 innings with three strikeouts as a reliever. He’s 1-4 with a 4.66 ERA in 46.1 innings pitched.

TJ Shook- Binghamton Rumble Ponies

On Sept. 15, Shook had three strikeouts over two innings as a reliever. So far in September, Shook has recorded 8 strikeouts over five innings giving up two homer and seven hits.
