Ahmarean Brown chiseling out 'big' role in South Carolina offense
It doesn’t take Marcus Satterfield long to pinpoint the biggest growth in South Carolina receiver Ahmarean Brown.
The word confidence quickly pours out of his mouth, gushing about Brown’s growing “like a wildfire.”
And it’s that confidence, also with Brown’s knowledge of the system, helping him chisel out a pretty vital role offensively this season.
“We can literally put him anywhere on the field, tell him to do something and he’s going to go out there and do it. We always say he’s our best chipper,” Luke Doty said. He helps us out in every single way. He does everything we ask him to do it. We’re really excited about what we’re going to get out of him this year.”
Brown’s confidence doesn’t stem from what was a relatively quiet regular season, instead, it comes from an incredibly quality bowl game against North Carolina.
After catching just seven passes for 43 yards in the regular season, Brown had season-highs in both catches (4) and yards (61) against North Carolina.
It was also a flash of what he could do in Satterfield’s offense. Brown has carried that momentum into the offseason and through preseason camp.
“He’s exactly where he needs to be, he’s always on time, and he’s always doing things the right way. He’s super competitive. That’s what he does every day. If a route’s supposed to be run at 10 yards, he runs it at 10 yards,” Marcus Satterfield said.

“If a route’s supposed to break in, he breaks in. he’s caught it cleanly, he’s super fast, he creates separation. I think he’s worked himself into the role he has in our offense now, which is a big one.”
Brown’s speed and size give him some versatility in South Carolina’s offense.
South Carolina can use Brown on jet sweeps and screens while also going out for deeper routes.
“Whatever the coaches need me to do I’m here for. I don’t question them or second-guess anything. I’m here for the team. That’s first and foremost,” he said.
“Wherever I’m at on the field I’m going to do my best and show the coaches what I can do. I’m going to go hard at it. Hopefully, I can do some things this year and light up the stadium a little bit.”
Brown came over last season from Georgia Tech where he had a great freshman year, catching 21 passes for 396 yards and seven touchdowns. His production dipped slightly in 2020, catching 10 fewer balls for just 183 yards and one score.
That led him to the transfer portal and subsequently South Carolina where it took him some time to get comfortable.
But, as the season approaches, Brown seems to have established himself as a contributor in what is a stacked receiver room.
“Ahmarean Brown, another guy returning,” Shane Beamer said. “There’s a lot of talk about the new guys we brought in, and rightfully so, but I’m excited about the returning guys and the way they’ve worked and elevated their games.”
