Ahmarean Brown on Xavier Legette: 'They're not going to forget us'
One of the first people Ahmarean Brown met when he came to South Carolina in 2021 was Xavier Legette. They got super close and would always hang out off the field.
Brown and Legette were both in similar situations. They knew how good they were. They were just guys ready to make an impact.
It was around this time when they had a conversation that Brown still remembers to this day.
“The crazy thing is, me and him had this talk about two years ago about, ‘Man, when we get our shot, they’re not going to forget us,'” Brown said in a Garnet Trust interview with GamecockCentral’s Chris Clark.

Fast forward to now, and it’s safe to say people will not forget Legette’s name anytime soon. After waiting his turn in the receivers room for years, he’s been nothing short of fantastic for South Carolina in 2023.
In three games, Legette has hauled in 22 passes for 367 yards and one touchdown. He’s been terrorizing defenses, already having two games with at least 100 receiving yards. To put it into perspective, that’s more than he had in his first four years combined.
“It’s crazy we’ve come to this point here where I’ve seen all the work that he’s put in. And just him making the most of every opportunity that he’s gotten, it’s special, man,” Brown said.

One of the biggest differences in Legette’s game has been his presence on deep balls. Seven of his catches have gone for at least 20 yards. His speed combined with size and athletic ability have made for him to be a go-to target for Spencer Rattler.

“He’s huge and he’s fast. What else can you ask for, especially as a wide receiver,” Brown said. “He’s going to go up. He cam jump out the gym. So just throw the ball towards him and he’ll find a way to catch it.”

Brown hasn’t been too bad of a receiver himself, as well. In three years with the Gamecocks, he’s been a reliable target, hauling in 43 passes for 378 yards. He still hasn’t scored that elusive first touchdown at South Carolina.
In the conversations the two friends share now, it’s much of the same. Trying to make sure they leave their mark in the place they call home.
“We talk every day about just taking that next step and doing everything each and every day to get where we want to be,” Brown said.
