Ahmarean Brown ready to make impact in year two at South Carolina
Ask Ahmarean Brown about his first year at South Carolina and he’ll quickly pivot to the words learning experience.
The Georgia Tech transfer played sparingly in his first year at South Carolina, undoubtedly frustrating for someone who was a regular player for a few years in the ACC.
But as he enters his senior season, the second under Shane Beamer and Marcus Satterfield, he’s ready to make a jump.
“I would say my maturity. The off-the-field things is getting my mind right, whether that’s studying more or being mentally prepared for the day. I think I’ve grown in that area a ton. Last year was really a learning experience for me,” Brown said.
“I’m really glad I experienced the things I experienced last year. I think that I’ll only help me go up from here.”
Brown only played in six games last year, catching 11 passes for 104 yards. But his production ticked up as the season went on with five of his 11 catches and 66 of his 104 yards coming in the final two weeks.
His best game of the season was the bowl game—a four-catch, 61-yard day—and he’s hoping to parlay that into this year.
“I’m just trying to work my butt off and do everything the coaches ask, whether that’s special teams or playing in the slot or on the outside,” he said. “I’m trying to find a role and want to do what’s best for us at the end of the day.”
All Brown wants to do is help the Gamecocks’ offense build on what was a largely up-and-down season. And it’s been so far so good for Brown and South Carolina.

Shane Beamer said Brown had a consistent spring. The receiver won the team’s most improved player of the spring along with Jaylen Nichols and Jordan Strachan.
“Ahmarean Brown got an award out there tonight,” Beamer said postgame. “He’s had a great spring. He really has. He’s been probably the most consistent receiver we’ve had all spring.”
The Gamecocks need someone to step up in the slot. There are certainly snaps to be had in the receiver room.
Time will tell how much of a role Brown will have in the offense. But he feels like he’s more than ready to help.
“I feel like I can stretch the field, whether that’s handoffs or running deep down the field. I feel like a lot of things are under looked like my route running and things of that nature,” Brown said.
“At the end of the day, whether that’s using my speed or blocking. I just want to use everything I got to help us be better. At the end of the day we are all working at the same goal. We all want to go to the championship.”
