South Carolina got its guy at running back for 2026.

Blountstown (Fla.) High four-star running back Amari Thomas, a former Florida State pledge, announced his commitment to the Gamecocks Friday afternoon, continuing what has been a strong recent run on the recruiting trail for the Garnet and Black to finish the summer.

Thomas, who was recruited by South Carolina running backs coach Marquel Blackwell, chose the Gamecocks over fellow finalists FSU, Georgia Tech, and Colorado.

“South Carolina should be a playoff team, they should have got in last year,” he told Rivals’ John Garcia Jr. earlier this month. “I loved the official visit.”

He also had offers from Kentucky, Florida, Miami, Ole Miss, Illinois, Louisville, West Virginia, Mississippi State, Auburn, N.C. State, and Virginia Tech, among others.

The Gamecocks had been working Thomas to flip for some time despite his early pledge to the Seminoles.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder took official visits to South Carolina and Florida State in June before decommitting from the Seminoles in July.

Rivals considers him a four-star prospect and the No. 184 overall prospect and No. 18 running back in the 2026 class. He is the No. 25 prospect in Florida.

The recruiting industry isn’t quite as high on Thomas. The Rivals Industry Ranking considers him the No. 436 overall prospect and No. 28 running back in the class and a three-star prospect.

As a junior, Thomas rushed for 1,880 yards and 34 touchdowns for an average of 12.3 yards per carry

Thomas is the first running back commit in the class for the Gamecocks and continues a run that saw Carolina land OL Kamari Blair, ATH Triston Lewis, QB Landon Duckworth, and CB Kosci Barnes over the last few weeks.

South Carolina’s 15-man recruiting class is currently ranked No. 17 in the country in the Rivals Team Recruiting Rankings.
