Bam Martin-Scott building off of strong finish to 2023 season
Last season, South Carolina linebacker Bam Martin-Scott went out with a bang. Recording 28 of his 38 tackles of the year in the final three games of the season, he feels that so far he’s been able to carry that momentum into this year.
“The last four games of last season have definitely transferred over to now (for me),” said Martin-Scott. “It’s definitely given me a boost of confidence. I feel like now the world knows I’m a ball player. I just keep carrying that (momentum) over.”

Appearing in ten games last season, he started in three games for the Gamecocks. In addition to finishing the season with 38 tackles, Martin-Scott also recorded four tackles for loss, two sacks and defended one pass. With the departures of linebackers Pup Howard and Stone Blanton to the transfer portal, the veteran linebacker could be in line to see a substantial increase of playing time this season.
“The spring has been going well for me. Individually, I’ve been learning a lot more positions. I (understand) the defense better now that I’ve been here for three years. As a team, I feel like this spring everybody is more connected. It’s been good from that end.”

One thing that South Carolina has been focused on this offseason is taking advantage of the speed and athleticism in their linebacker room. For a player like Martin-Scott, that’s been extremely beneficial. During winter workouts he shared that he was clocked running over 22 miles per hours.
“I think it’s great. I think it shows that we have a lot of versatility like coming off the edge of a pass rush and playing in coverage. Just being fast linebackers.”
