GG Jackson, the consensus number one prospect in the nation, has committed to play at South Carolina.

The news comes following Jackson recently decommitting from the University of North Carolina.

On3 has been told that dating back to when Jackson was initially being recruited by South Carolina, he was intrigued after either hearing about or speaking with a long list of Gamecocks including Aja Wilson, Sindarius Thornwell, PJ Dozier, Shane Beamer, Alex English, and Spencer Rattler about the legacy he could create by staying home and playing for the Gamecocks.

That, combined with the NIL opportunities that could be created locally by remaining in Columbia played critical roles in being able to land USC’s now highest rated prospect in program history.

Sources close to the situation told me that newly hired USC coach Lamont Paris was able to build a relationship with Jackson quickly. “There’s a level of comfortability and trust there,” they said. “Paris has built a connection with GG.”

What also shouldn’t be overlooked is having former Gamecocks two-time captain Carey Rich part of USC’s staff. With a new South Carolina coaching staff, who weren’t part of the original recruitment of Jackson, it certainly didn’t hurt the Gamecocks to have someone like Rich who has built a rapport with Jackson and his family in the past now on this current staff.

Having completed all of his coursework and having already been accepted into the university, there’s no hold up. Jackson is good to go to enroll early into South Carolina. In fact, prior to Jackson’s commitment to USC, the Gamecocks still had two scholarships available for the class of 2022.

Call it a perfect storm of planning, luck, or a little bit of both, the bottom line is, USC has pulled off what a few weeks ago appeared to be impossible. The No.1 player in the land has committed to be a Gamecock.

GG Jackson’s High School Scouting Summary by On3

Jackson steps on the floor with great size (6-foot-9) with good length and explosive pop. He plays with a great motor, switching ends very quickly. Jackson is an instinctive weakside shot blocker. We would like to see him rebound more consistently, but he is capable. Jackson has a good handle and is very good in iso- situations in the half-court. He plays with great balance and a sturdy base off the bounce. While his jump shot is becoming more consistent, he is great in the mid-range, but playing out of the mid-post and with pull-ups. He will need to continue getting stronger, but he is not yet scratching the surface of his potential. Jackson is an interesting prospect where he is already producing at a high clip, but he also has a lot of ceiling left to grow.
