Cam Scott returning to South Carolina after originally entering transfer portal

Cam Scott, who originally entered the transfer portal on April 1, will now stay at South Carolina, his mother told The State’s Lou Bezjak. GamecockCentral has confirmed that he’s expected back.
Scott is now one of two players from this past year’s team to return for the 2025-26 season. Jordan Butler also recently announced that he will be back with the Gamecocks for his junior year.
As a freshman, Scott averaged just 2.5 points on 27.8 percent shooting from the field and 17.8 percent shooting from the arc. He also averaged 1.3 rebounds per game.
Scott rejoins a South Carolina team that will look much different heading into next season. Myles Stute could also be back if he’s officially cleared with his medical hardship waiver by the NCAA. Beyond that, there will be a lot of new faces on the team.

The Gamecocks have been extremely active in the transfer portal, bringing in six new players, featuring four-star guard Kobe Knox, four-star post players Elijah Strong and Christ Essandoko, and three-star guard Meechie Johnson. The team’s most recent portal commitment came from four-star guard Mike Sharvajamits, who committed to South Carolina last week.
South Carolina also has five incoming freshmen joining the team, including Eli Ellis, Hayden Assemian, Grant Polk, EJ Walker, and Abu Yarmah, who committed to the Gamecocks on Monday.
Scott will have three years of eligibility remaining. South Carolina has one roster spot left to fill.
