Chris Veach signs undrafted free agent deal with Yankees
After going undrafted in the 2024 MLB Draft, Chris Veach has found a home to begin his pro baseball journey.
The South Carolina right-hander has signed a free agent deal with the New York Yankees, the organization announced on Thursday.
During the draft, it was clear the Yankees were focused in on bringing in more pitching talent after trading away some to acquire more offense for the 2024 season. In total, the Bronx Bombers drafted 13 pitchers and five more, including Veach, in undrafted free agency.

Fast forward to 2024, it was much of the same, if not more success for the righty reliever. In 44.2 innings, he went 5-2 with a 3.63 ERA and earned three saves in 26 games. He struck out 54 and walked 24.

Veach is now the fourth Gamecock within the Yankees organization. Clarke Schmidt, who’s currently on the injured list, has been with the big league club since 2020. Cody Morris was traded to New York during the offseason and was in Triple-A. Though, he recently was designated for assignment on July 15. Lastly, Cade Austin, who was drafted in the 19th round by the team last year, is playing in Single-A with the Tampa Tarpons.
