Coming to South Carolina a 'dream come true' for Tyler Causey
Tyler Causey grew up going to South Carolina baseball games. He knows what Founders Park and that program is all about.
So much so the Gamecocks were one of the schools he was heavily considering coming out of school. He ultimately went to North Carolina, but he finally gets to come home as part of the South Carolina transfer class.
“It’s near home. I’ve got a lot of family in Columbia,” he told GamecockCentral. “I grew up going to South Carolina baseball games and Founders. It’s pretty cool. Dream come true.”

Causey, a top 500 prospect out of Fort Mill, S.C., went to North Carolina and fought through injuries nearly his entire time at Chapel Hill.
He finished with just 78 career plate appearances, slashing .254/.321/394 with 14 RBI and three home runs.
“If you look at the stat sheet over my time in college, it’s definitely not something that sticks out. But it can be very deceiving because. Obviously, I did not get to play that much due to a lot of injuries that I’ve kind of been plagued with that throughout my college career,” Causey said.
“But South Carolina is getting somebody who’s mature physically and mentally now, who’s going through a lot of adversity and can help the team win games. They get a big lefty bat that’s got a lot of power in it.”
He missed the entire 2023 season rehabbing from a shoulder injury but is back to fully healthy and ready to make an impact with the Gamecocks.
“I feel great now. I’m the best I’ve been since I’ve been in college. That’s kind of been a major factor since the time I got to college,” Causey said. “I’ve been able to take this year and really rehab the shoulder. I’ve put on a lot of weight and I”m back up over 230. So I’m the biggest and strongest I’ve ever been. I’m definitely the best I’ve ever felt.”

South Carolina likes his positional versatility–he can bounce around the infield while playing primarily at second and short–along with a juiced lefty bat.
Monte Lee went up to Fort Mill to watch Causey work out and the Gamecocks landed his commitment a few weeks later.
“It was definitely a dream come true,” Causey said. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about him. And after kind of getting to sit down with coach Lee and talk to some of the other coaches, I felt like they’ve built a great staff over there. I was just super excited. Ready to get to work.”
He’s hoping now coming to South Carolina can help bolster the clubhouse with his experience and tribulations.
“With failures come many lessons. So being able to learn from each one of those is, um, really good. Really good. If you look at most College World Series teams, a lot of them are older,” Causey said.
“That’s just purely from experience and being able to learn from failures. So being able to have guys like that in the clubhouse or something, something big and something I think is very beneficial.”
And he also get to play for the home state school.
“Just excited to be home,” Causey said. “Ready to get to work.”
