Former South Carolina DB lands Power 4 assistant coaching role
Former South Carolina defensive back Cory Peoples is expected to be named Georgia Tech’s defensive backs coach after four seasons at Georgia State.
News broke on Thursday that the former Gamecock, who was State’s secondary coach and defensive passing game coordinator, would be making the move across town, according to several reports. GamecockCentral has also confirmed the move.
The 42-year-old Bishopville, S.C. native played for the Gamecocks from 2003-2004 after a couple of seasons at Georgia Military College.

After graduating from South Carolina, Peoples spent a couple of seasons in the NFL with the Eagles followed by stops in NFL Europe and the CFL.
Since his playing days ended, Peoples has steadily climbed the coaching ladder, starting as an assistant at Georgia Military.

From there Peoples went to Clarke Atlanta University then St. Augustine’s followed by stops at Charleston Southern, S.C. State, Albany State, and Georgia Southern prior to his four-year stay at Georgia State.
Peoples was an all-state quarterback and defensive back at Bishopville High School.

Replacing Pete Lembo wasn’t going to be an easy task. But just over a week after he departure for Buffalo, and South Carolina has been able to land one of the best special teams minds on any level with the hiring of Joe DeCamillis.
The reception for the Gamecocks new special teams coordinator/associate head coach has been extremely positive. That includes from former Gamecocks tight end Kyle Markway who won a Super Bowl with DeCamillis during their time with the Los Angeles Rams.
“It (has) me super excited for Gamecock Nation because I know how good of a fit it’ll be,” Markway told GamecockCentral. “He’s a football coach that truly loves the game. He loves the game and has a ton of knowledge. He’s gonna bring a lot of good stuff to this program.”
