Cutter Woods proud to represent home state with Gamecocks
Once South Carolina offered Cutter Woods, the former Wake Forest quarterback commit wasted little time in setting an official visit to see more of what the school had to offer.
And after taking that official visit, Woods wasted little time in committing to the Gamecocks, flipping his pledge to the home-state school with an announcement on Monday evening.
“I mean, obviously it’s home, playing for your home state, obviously is something to be proud of and excited for,” Woods told GamecockCentral. “But, you know, after the visit, after kind of talking over it with the family, we felt like it was the right choice to make, and I’m just excited to get down there.”

Woods originally committed to the Deamon Deacons in April, choosing them over offers from Auburn, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech, among others.
But South Carolina and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains kept a close eye on the 6-foot-2.5, 195-pound signal-caller, continuing the evaluation process.
After watching Woods throw extensively at one of the Gamecocks’ on-campus 7-on-7’s, Loggains was sold and offered a few days later.
“I guess I’ve been talking with Coach Loggains since last summer, but we’ve really kind of like got to communicate a lot more the past two weeks and just getting to hang out with him this whole weekend. And I guess really, really see what he’s about,” Woods said. “It was really good. I really liked what I saw.”

A big part of the conversation this weekend on the official was about how Woods would fit into the NFL veteran’s scheme.
As a junior this past season, Woods completed 220 of 317 passes for 3,915 yards and 42 touchdowns with eight interceptions, according to MaxPreps. He added 345 yards and five touchdowns on the ground while leading Westside to a state title.
A passer first, who can also extend plays with his legs, Woods appears to be a fit for what Loggains wants to do, though he also plans to tweak the offense to fit Woods’ skills.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
“Oh, he showed me clips from my high school film and he showed me clips of their offense from last year and just how they can relate ,” Woods said. “And he’s obviously going to coach me hard and push me to be better, but also using the skillset they’re given to help their offense the best way they possible can and not trying to make you someone you’re not.”
Ultimately, Woods and his family saw everything they needed to see on the visit.
“The hospitality was great, but really just the people, like Coach (Shane) Beamer, Coach Loggains, and the people that have their program,” Woods said. “You just feel how genuine it is there. The people really surprised me.”
When Woods announced his commitment, “congratulations” from prospects around the state rolled in, including from current quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
“Oh, I mean, that’s definitely a big part,” Woods said of the camaraderie among the prospects from the state. “You know what I mean? I played with Mazeo (Bennett) a long time ago in 12U, we go way back. But there’s guys from around your high school that you play against in season or that you just know of or are guys with (and) I guess can come together as a group of guys from the same state and try to represent and be proud of that. It’s something to look forward to.”
