Soon there will be another Clowney in the Garnet and Black.

Former Louisville EDGE Demon Clowney, the cousin of Gamecocks Great Jadeveon Clowney, has signed with South Carolina via the transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

GamecockCentral has confirmed the news.

The younger Clowney signed with Louisville via the portal in December but never suited up for the Cardinals, re-entering last month before signing with Carolina on Thursday.

He should have one season of eligibility remaining.

Clowney spent the last two seasons at Charlotte where he played in 22 games tallying 10.0 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks.

This past season, Clowney collected 26 tackles, 6.0 tackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks after logging 33 tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks the year prior.

Clowney’s time in the Queen City came after three seasons with Ole Miss where he played in just eight games and had 12 total tackles.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder will look for a fresh start in his return to the SEC under the tutelage of Gamecocks assistant Sterling Lucas.

A former four-star prospect, Clowney initially signed with the Rebels as the No. 240 overall prospect in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

He was ranked as the No. 14 EDGE in the class and the No. 11 overall player from the state of Maryland, hailing from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy.

South Carolina EDGE Wendell Gregory recently announced that he would enter the portal while EDGE Jaylen Brown, a transfer from Missouri, is out for the spring with an injury.

Shane Beamer spoke to the lack of depth in the room earlier this week.

“We were already a little bit thin to begin with before spring practice,” Beamer said. “And then we lose Jaylen, Wendell decides to transfer. Now an already thin group is even thinner with two guys down, or gone for now.
