Dowell Loggains officially hired as Appalachian State's next head coach

South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has been hired as Appalachian State’s head coach. The news, which was first reported to be in the works, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, became official when App State made a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We got our guy!” @AppState_FB posted.
The news comes five days after previous head coach Shawn Clark was fired following the Mountaineers’ first losing season in 11 years. App State went 5-6 on the year and 3-5 in the Sun Belt.

According to the Watauga Democrat editor Moss Brennan, App State’s Board of Trustees was expected to meet at 5 p.m. on Saturday via Zoom. Per GamecockCentral’s Mike Uva, App State called for a team meeting at 5 p.m., the same time as the Board’s virtual meeting.
Loggains has spent the last two seasons in Columbia with the Gamecocks. With him moving on to his first head coaching job, this means another offensive coordinator search will begin for South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer. Marcus Satterfield was the OC from 2021-22 before Loggains came on board in 2023.
