This week is a little different than the rest in the world of college football. Not only is it rivalry week, but it’s also Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving always falls on the fourth Thursday of November, which comes in the middle of game preparation. Not much will change for South Carolina, though. Even with a matchup against arch rival Clemson on Saturday night (7:30 P.M., SECN).

“We will try and keep as normal of a schedule as possible,” head coach Shane Beamer said. “Practice Thursday morning like we always do. Thursdays during the season, our players are done by 11:30, 12:00 at the latest. This Thursday will be no different being able to spend Thanksgiving with their families if they are in town. Luckily, a lot of our guys live close and they may be going home with somebody or going to a coaches house. We will all spend Thanksgiving together as much as we can and then back in here on Friday with a normal schedule. Looking forward to it.”

Before celebrating Thanksgiving, players spoke about what their favorite foods are. They also debated over what one certain side item should be called.

And that side item would be stuffing. Or depending on where you live, you might know it as dressing.

“I don’t want to screw this up, but I call it dressing,” Beamer said. “So I don’t know if I’m wrong in saying that or if I completely upset half of our fanbase…So dressing and then sweet potatoes would be the first side that goes on my plate.

Dressing/stuffing is a mixture of dried bread, herbs, and other flavorful mix-ins that’s stuffed inside of the turkey when it’s being cooked. But some cook it in a casserole dish instead of inside the holiday bird.

“Dressing is what I’ve called it so whatever stuffing is, we’re not going to break it down. To me, dressing is dressing. Not like the salad dressing, like the dressing dressing. And then sweet potatoes.”

As for the rest of the team, four players — Boogie Huntley, Debo Williams, Marcellas Dial and Spencer Rattler — said Macaroni and Cheese is their favorite side dish to eat on Thanksgiving.

“Definitely, without a doubt. That’s a go-to,” Huntley said about Mac and Cheese.

Williams said sweet potatoes is his second favorite side dish, much like what his head coach said. Rattler said he also likes dressing, but he’s not “real picky.”

But every now and then, you’ll find someone that loves an obscure, non-traditional dish to eat on Thanksgiving. And for South Carolina, that guy is Mario Anderson.

“My favorite dish might not be a Thanksgiving dish but pork beans and rice,” Anderson said. “I love pork beans and rice with a side of turkey and stuffing.”

Happy Thanksgiving!
