In an emergency GC Live, Gamecock Central’s Mike Uva will be joined by On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw to share more about this developing story. You watch live at the link below and ask any questions you may have.

The new comes less than two weeks after On3’s Jamie Shaw report, Intel: The latest on 2023 No. 1 prospect GG Jackson’s recruitment.

Currently listed as a prospect for the class of 2023, Shaw has reported that UNC coaches made a trip down to Columbia to ask Jackson if he would want to reclassify before the Tar Heels used their final two 2022 scholarships on other players. Those players being via the transfer portal. Jackson declined. Flash forward to mid-July and now the 6-8 power forward has altogether said no to North Carolina by decommiting. At lest for now.

That now leaves three options available for Jackson:
1- G-League.
2- Remain in the class of 2023
3- Reclassify to the class of 2022 and commit to another school

As On3 has reported, there have been strong beliefs that the Ridge View star will commit to South Carolina. As of Tuesday afternoon, July 12, the On3 recruiting prediction machine had the Gamecocks as the favorites to land Jackson, at just under 57%. The second best odds at 41.7% was UNC, the school he just decommitted from.

If Jackson were to commit to South Carolina, On3 is told that he plans on reclassifying to the class of 2022.

Having completed all of his coursework and having already been accepted into South Carolina, there’s no hold up. As Jackson is good to go to enroll early into the university. In fact, prior to Jackson’s commitment to USC, the Gamecocks still had two scholarships available.

Gamecock Central will have more information as this story develops.

GG Jackson’s High School Scouting Summary by On3

Jackson steps on the floor with great size (6-foot-9) with good length and explosive pop. He plays with a great motor, switching ends very quickly. Jackson is an instinctive weakside shot blocker. We would like to see him rebound more consistently, but he is capable. Jackson has a good handle and is very good in iso- situations in the half-court. He plays with great balance and a sturdy base off the bounce. While his jump shot is becoming more consistent, he is great in the mid-range, but playing out of the mid-post and with pull-ups. He will need to continue getting stronger, but he is not yet scratching the surface of his potential. Jackson is an interesting prospect where he is already producing at a high clip, but he also has a lot of ceiling left to grow.
