Erik Kimrey departing South Carolina football
Tight ends coach Erik Kimrey is departing the South Carolina football program for another opportunity, Gamecock Central has learned.
Players and staffers within the program were informed of the move by Kimrey this morning, according to sources.
Gamecock Central is told that Kimrey is set to become a high school head coach at a prominent program in the Southeast, with an announcement slated for a later date.

Prior to joining the South Carolina staff, Kimrey was the head football coach at Hammond School, where he took the program to unprecedented heights.
At Hammond, Kimrey had a career record of 194-20 including 12 total state titles, the most of any coach in South Carolina high school football history.

Kimrey played quarterback at the University of South Carolina under Lou Holtz from 1998-2002 and worked with the program’s tight ends as a graduate assistant in 2003.
Well-known and revered among the Gamecock fan base, the Columbia native threw a game-winning touchdown pass against Mississippi State in 2000, an iconic play in South Carolina history that became known as “The Fade”.
In his one season with the program, Kimrey signed two tight ends, Oklahoma transfer Austin Stogner and Chapin (S.C.) three-star Zavier Short.
Earlier today, Gamecock Central broke the news that South Carolina director of football relations Connor Shaw is also leaving the program.
