Ethan Petry, Cole Messina named Preseason All-SEC First-Teamers

South Carolina’s Ethan Petry and Cole Messina have been racking up preseason accolades over the past few weeks. With the announcement of the preseason All-SEC teams, both Petry and Messina picked up another.

The two returning Gamecock sluggers were named to the Preseason All-SEC First Team.

Petry returns to South Carolina as one of the team’s top offensive weapons last year. The sophomore slashed .376/.471/.733 with 23 homers and 75 RBI as a freshman in 2023.

Messina emerged as a breakout star for the Gamecocks last season as the team’s starting catcher. He hit .307/.428/.615 with 17 homers and 65 RBI.

The South Carolina baseball team will open its 2024 season with a three-game series against Miami (Ohio). First pitch for game one will be at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.
