Everything LaNorris Sellers said about South Carolina spring football practice so far

South Carolina starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers spoke with the media on Wednesday. Here’s everything he had to say about how spring practice has gone so far.
With the mannequin video yesterday, did the instincts kind of just take over when you spun out? It kind of looked like you were trying to get out of the pocket.
“Pretty much. I watched it every day. I knew when they put it up, they were gonna try to get us. And then the day I didn’t check, they got us.”
How are things going for you on the field? Everything going well?
“Yeah, pretty good. We got a bunch of new guys in, but we’re all getting on the same page and everything.”
What’s the process been like working with a new center? What kind of goes into building that chemistry early on here?
“Pretty much in January, getting extra snaps, talking to him, getting to know him and meet him, stuff like that. Then just practicing, asking him what he sees when he’s (identifying the mike). Stuff like that.”
A big new group of receivers came in this spring. What has it been like working with them so far?
“It’s different. They’re younger guys. It takes time for them to adjust. You’ve got to get used to that. Then just working with them, making sure they’re good, making sure their confidence is high and stuff like that.”

With those freshmen receivers specifically, what’s stood out about those guys?
“They’re just willing to work. With them being young, they don’t shy away from anything. They can all run. They’re all athletic and catch the ball well.”
How has life been different since the Clemson game?
“People come up to me all the time, ask for pictures and stuff, ask for autographs. In public, it’s very different. It’s fun.”
What’s it been like working with some of the other quarterbacks in the room, specifically guys like Air Noland and Cutter Woods joining this year?
“It’s fine. I knew Cutter from high school. We train together with coach Ramon (Robinson), so that was nothing really new. Air’s a cool guy, from Ohio State. He’s from Atlanta. I think I trained with him too, a while back. So I mean, it was nothing brand new. But we just got rolling.”

Is there anything different working with Mike Shula as far as what you guys are doing this year?
“It’s not anything brand new. He was here last year. So he’s implementing some new stuff, teaching the young guys new stuff and just adding stuff on here and there.”
Your brother Jayden is here with you now. What has it been like having him here? After the year you had last year, have you taught him anything?
“We started talking about stuff here once they won state last year. So, just the little stuff. I gave him the playbook that they gave me. Just learn it if you want to play early. Talking to him, keeping his conference high, like I said. Told him it wasn’t going to be easy, but he can do it.”
What stands out about the running back room?
“They’re all powerful. They’re all strong guys, too. Kind of reminds me of Rocket (Sanders), to be honest. Came from different schools, older guys, but still asking questions, even though I’m younger than them and all that.”
You were out there at practice yesterday on kick return. Beamer mentioned it, you wanted to get out there and participate in the special teams work. What was that kind of like?
“It was fun, to be honest. But we were changing practice periods, and I just walked out there, because I thought it was over. And they were like, ‘You want to do it? You want to do it?’ I was like, I’m out here, I might as well do it. And I just did it.”
What are some of the little things that you’ve been trying to fine-tune with playing quarterback? Anything mechanical or little details that you’re trying to get right?
“Just footwork, timing, anticipation, really trusting my arm. Knowing I can make these throws, then just going out there and doing it.”
How do you practice running when you want to, not when you have to?
“It really just comes down to trusting the people around me, trusting the protection, just being more patient with the protection, and not just looking to run. Trusting the receivers that they’ll get open and throwing with anticipation and stuff like that, timing and footwork, all that.”
