Everything LaNorris Sellers said after beating Clemson
LaNorris Sellers had a legendary performance, leading South Carolina to a win over Clemson. Here’s everything he said after the game.
Q: Rocket, what can you say about LaNorris and his heroics today?
Rocket Sanders: He’s just Him. He’s one of The Ones. Great talent. I’ve been seeing this. In practice, like I said before, he gets touched and the play is over with, but when game time comes, he’s prepared for it. And I definitely give a big shout-out to him. He’s one of them Ones.
Q: You talked all week about how this was a regular game. Was there a point where you looked around and said, we just did that?
Sellers: We scored but the game wasn’t over. We had like a minute or something left, so we knew it wasn’t over. They could have gone down there and kicked a field goal and it would have been overtime. If we had to go back out there, we was ready. If we didn’t, we win the game.
Q: On the game-winning touchdown, what was the play supposed to be?
Sellers: It was a pass play. But I just saw, like, colors flash, my first read – (“Green grass!” Sanders interrupted). Yeah, then I saw green grass. Pretty much, they touched me. I just stepped up. I usually just find a receiver, but it was like, I seen green grass. Why not take it when I’ve been doing it all game?

Q: Do you ever see any of this as a big deal, as something special that you did? You escape out of the backfield. You did it against Missouri. You did it against Clemson. Do you see that as something really special?
Sellers: I mean, yeah, I think it’s just football, honestly. I’ve been doing it all my life, so just another game, just making a play. Beamer says all the time, players need to make plays. That’s what I did.
Q: Why is this a playoff team? Why should you guys be in the playoff with the 12 teams?
Sellers: We’ve got so much talent on this team. But another thing is just the family (atmosphere). We want it, we want it more. That’s what they said about the SEC, and I feel like we’re one of the teams that, you know, want it more and want to compete. Not just for us but for the SEC as well.

Q: Coach Beamer talks about how you don’t get rattled. After the interception, with all the energy in the stadium, how did you avoid getting rattled?
Sellers: It’s really just our defense, just the way they’ve been playing. They’ve been playing good all game. So it’s like, we made a mistake, we turned the ball over. But I trust the defense go out there and make a stop. They made a stop. They did it all game, honestly. I know they will have my back if I make a mistake, and we will have theirs if they make one.
Q: What is it about you that makes you impossible to tackle?
Sellers: (Laughs, no answer.)

Q: Beamer said you deserve some Heisman consideration. Has he mentioned that to you or in front of the team?
Sellers: He hasn’t mentioned that in front of the team? Dude, I’m trying to keep that on the low. Anything from the media, fans, anything like that, dude will shut you down. He would tell me one-on-one, but he won’t tell me in front of the team.
Q: Were you affected by any of the boos or the crowd?
Sellers: No. They are going to boo, our fans are going to boo back. Every team we play does that. They can say whatever they want. We’re still out there playing, so that’s fine.
Q: Nyck Harbor called you “LaMagic.” Do you like that nickname?
Sellers: I do. Anything they come up with, I just take it and run with it.
Q: Did you feel the defense getting more and more frustrated because they got you bottled up and then you’re out?
Sellers: I know that was mad. Everybody we play, I hear our defensive line say if they were to grab a quarterback and he was just to step out of like, how mad they would be. Coach is talking to me all the time about it. It just like, brings all the wind out of the defense. It just frustrates them, and they start just getting in their head and stuff like that.
Q: I heard people saying after the game that this game makes you part of the legacy and people will be talking about the LaNorris Sellers Game for years to come.
Sellers: I appreciate it. I appreciate all the support.
