South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler spoke with the media after a 24-14 loss to top-ranked Georgia on Saturday. Here’s what he had to say.

On second half struggles
“We just shot ourselves in the foot. I mean, we had 11 penalties, I believe. We shot ourselves in the foot with false starts, wrong formations, just little stuff like that. We know what we need to clean up. But I’m proud as hell, proud of my guys a lot. We battled against the best team in the country, and we should’ve won the game.”
On O’Mega Blake stepping up with Juice Wells down
“Next man up mentality. And he knows that, too. Obviously, sucks to see (Wells) out. But I thought O’Mega came in and made big time plays. Proud of him, for sure.”

On how he thought the offense looked
“It’s tough to do it in a big, loud stadium. I thought our coaches put us in a great position. We made some changes going into the second half, but like I said, we shot ourselves in the foot. We were moving the ball at a high clip. But we just have to make more plays. We had some really explosive plays but penalties just killed us. We’ll be better.”
On momentum shifting in third quarter
“It’s tough to communicate backed up to their student section back there. It’s a tough spot to be in. I don’t know if (Georgia) scored again after that missed field goal. But our defense did a great job tonight. Like I said, just self-inflicted stuff. We’ll clean that up.”

On the offensive line
“Offensive line as a whole played great. I mean, I stayed off the ground for a lot of the night. They did a great job of blocking for me.”
On the identity of the team
“We’re tough, we’ve got grit. We just have to be smart.”

On staying level-headed
“I try to stay level-headed as much as I can. Those guys, they work just as hard as me. So I got to show some respect towards them. I know we had a young o-line in there, and Tree (Babalade) had a false start today, and I just talked him up because I knew he was playing his butt off. Same with the other guys up front, some receivers.”
On Georgia’s defense
“One of the best defenses in the country. Credit to their defensive coach, they did some good things. We really couldn’t get our running game going. We didn’t do our job, but like I said, self-inflicted wounds hurt us.”
