No. 2 South Carolina women’s basketball defeated Texas A&M 90-49 Thursday. After the matchup, Aggies head coach Joni Taylor spoke to the media.

Here’s everything she said.

What did you see from the performance on defense?

“I thought the third or fourth quarter, they came out and obviously we did a decent job of protecting the paint early. And in the third and fourth quarter, we let them cut. We let the face cut. And if you let them touch it in their spots, all of them are just so good. And so we didn’t move. They got space shot threes. Caught it inside. They did whatever they wanted to do, and that was disappointing to see. They’re very, very good. And if you let them pass and catch and move and flow, you’re in for a long night. And I thought we, in the third or fourth quarter, weren’t aggressive at all.”

What would you attribute to the performance on offense?

[USC-Texas WBB: Win tickets, parking]

“Same thing, think they were the more physical team. They pushed us off our spots, they wrote us off screens. They didn’t let us get to our spots, and we just conceded. We conceded on both ends of the floor. You know what? I’ve said this before, I’ll continue to say what Dawn has built here at South Carolina is incredible. I remember being a player in Alabama and there being 15 people here when I came and so I hope you guys know what you have and cherish it, because it’s a special thing that she’s done. She worked really hard. And when they just keep coming in waves, and they keep coming in waves, it becomes really challenging. But I didn’t think we thought they punched us in the mouth, and we didn’t punch back, you know, we just conceded to, okay, I’m not open. You handle it, you take it. And we didn’t get into the layers of our offense. We got down to 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, where somebody’s just stuck with the ball in their hands. We had no flow and not a lot of continuity. There for too many there were some possessions that were good. I do want to say that I thought our second group came in and played well, gave us some life. They played hard. They have their movement. They were aggressive. They weren’t perfect, but they had a light in their eye that just didn’t see consistently enough from everybody.”

What was South Carolina doing to take Aicha Coulibaly out of her game?

“I think they top locked her and just pushed her up, didn’t allow her to get to her spots, and everything was a tough shot for her, and they just did a really good job of being keyed in on her and and not letting her get to her spots.”

What did you see from Joyce Edwards?

“Yeah, well, I mean, Joyce is someone that I coached with USA Basketball, so fortunately and unfortunately, I knew exactly what she’s capable of. She’s someone who can score all three levels. She doesn’t get rushed. She’s got great pace. She gets over her back to the basket. She can face up. She’s got a new range game, and then she’s a quick Leaper and jumper. So her future is really, really bright.”
