Exclusive (Video): The man behind Cotton Gin's Gamecock marquees
The Cotton Gin has been serving more than just cold beers and Jägerbombs as of late, as they’ve not only become part of celebrating gamecock commitments but they’ve also provided an added boost to recruiting.
“Him seeing his name up on the marquee when he did his official visit kind of just gave him the feel for how passionate the fanbase was,” recalls Cotton Gin General Manager Thomas Dugas of one of the first times a recruit’s name was posted on the bar’s iconic outdoor signage. “He hadn’t experienced that anywhere else.”
What you may not have known is that long before Dugas ever worked at this Five Points bar, he was already a part of recruiting for South Carolina.
“I worked in the recruiting office under (former South Carolina coach Will) Muschamp. I started in March of 2017, I believe.”

Dugas spent three seasons with the program before becoming general manger at cotton gin in the summer of 2020.
“I got most excited about the operation side of things. You know, hosting the recruits (and) doing everything in my power to provide a good experience to make them want to come to South Carolina.”
