South Carolina offensive lineman Trai Jones was already ruled out for this weekend’s matchup with Jacksonville State, but head coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that several others — offensive linemen Vershon Lee and Cason Henry, wide receivers Xavier Legette and Ahmarean Brown, and tight end Trey Knox — were at the time questionable for Saturday’s game.

On Thursday’s call-in show, the third-year South Carolina coach gave the latest on the injury front in his final appearance prior to this weekend’s game.

“Trai Jones won’t play this week. He’ll be out. The good news is Cason Henry and Vershon Lee will,” Beamer said. “Tree (Babalade) and Tro (Baugh) are good. Ahmarean Brown is back. We’re not quite ready to say that Trey Knox is out. I’d say he’s questionable right now. We’re getting healthier and should be playing our best football in November.”

Jones went down with a high-ankle sprain against Texas A&M and looked visibly frustrated as he sat on the field in pain.

Knox exited the A&M matchup with a hamstring injury he suffered while attempting to make a catch.

Legette was questionable entering the Texas A&M game and was able to play but was clearly not himself. He also missed the final drive against A&M after getting rolled up.

Brown, who dealt with a hamstring injury early in the year, also injured his hamstring at Missouri and did not play last week.

South Carolina hopes to get wide receiver Juice Wells back at some point this season. Wells was limited during the first three games after having preseason foot surgery but appeared to be getting close to his old self when he scored the first touchdown of Saturday’s matchup with Georgia.

But he had to exit to the locker room right after that score with a feared broken bone in his foot and has missed every game since.

Lee, who made the move from center to right tackle for the first time this year against Florida, exited that game with a knee injury late in the first half and did not travel to Mizzou or Texas A&M.

Henry was injured on the fourth play of the season against North Carolina and has missed every play since..

South Carolina and Jacksonville State are set for a noon kickoff at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday.
