Former Gamecock currently in NFL selected in UFL College Draft, what this means
Nearly three months after not being selected in the NFL Draft, former South Carolina wide receiver Ahmarean Brown heard his name called on Wednesday in the 2024 UFL College Draft.
In the eighth round, Brown was drafted by the three-time-defending UFL championships Birmingham Stallions.
There’s only one problem with that. Brown is currently a member of the Cleveland Browns and is set to report for training camp on July 22. So how does this work?

The Stallions, who are coached by Skip Holtz, the son of former Gamecock head coach Lou, own Browns’ UFL rights. If Brown was released by Cleveland and wanted to play in the UFL, the Stallions would have the first crack at him.
While it’s nice to know that there’s a “Plan B” out there for the former South Carolina wide receiver, he’s hoping “Plan A” will work out. A plan that involves making the Browns 53-man roster.

Following the conclusion of Day 3 of the NFL Draft, the Browns signed Brown as an undrafted free agent by. The three-year deal, worth $2,850,000, included a $20,000 signing bonus and $170,000 guaranteed.
Standing at just 5-8, 170 pounds, Brown is coming off his best season as a Gamecock after catching 26 passes for 265 yards and a touchdown. It was his best season of his college career since his freshman year at Georgia Tech in 2020 when he caught seven touchdown passes before transferring to South Carolina ahead of the 2021 season.

In addition to contributing at wide receiver, Brown knows that he’ll have to make a difference on special teams in order to stick with a team. A phase of the game he told GamecockCentral in April that he enjoys playing after playing three seasons for former South Carolina special teams coordinator Pete Lembo.
“Playing for coach (Pete) Lembo was one of the biggest blessings in my life. Playing at the next level, for a guy like me, I’m gonna have to play special teams and it’s something that I’m wiling do. Especially with the new format for the kickoff. Just to be able to get the ball in my hands to be able to make some moves, I think it’s gonna be exciting… I can excel not only on kickoff but on punt (returns) too.”
