Former Gamecock forward Chris Silva signs with Atlanta Hawks
Former Gamecock forward Chris Silva has signed with Atlanta Hawks, the team announced today.
Per team policy, the terms of the agreement were not revealed.
The former Gamecock originally signed with the Miami Heat on July 11, 2019. As a rookie, he averaged three points per game on 61.5 percent shooting.
On March 25, 2021, the Heat dealt Silva along with Maurice Harkless to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Nemanja Bjelica. Just over a month later, he was waived by the organization, after playing in four games.
Later that same year, Silva found his way onto the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he also spent time with the G-League’s Iowa Wolves. In 12 games with Iowa, he averaged 15.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.8 blocks, leading in both rebounds and blocks per game.
On Dec. 31, 2021, Silva reunited with Miami, as he signed a 10-day contract. Throughout the season, he’d go on to sign three additional 10-day deals, playing in nine games. While there, he averaged 2.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 9.8 minutes per game.
Most recently, Silva rejoined the Wolves on Feb. 9.
In three NBA seasons, the former Gamecock has averaged 2.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.4 blocks in 69 games.

Silva played for the Gamecocks from 2015-19, where he made the All-SEC First Team in 2019. He also won SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and made the SEC All-Defensive team in 2018.
Most notably, he helped South Carolina reach the Final Four in 2017 for the first time in school history. That season, he averaged 10.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.
In his four-year career with the Gamecocks, Silva finished with 11.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.4 blocks in 134 games played.
Silva and the Hawks will open the regular season on Oct. 19 against the Houston Rockets at State Farm Arena.
