Williams was a four-year starter on the offensive line at South Carolina from 1999-02. His play earned him first-team All-SEC honors in 2000 and helped the Gamecocks win back-to-back wins in the Outback Bowl in 2000 and 2001.

A Charleston native, Williams began his coaching career as a grad assistant at USC from 2006-08. He returned to work with South Carolina during the 2016 season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach before joining Shawn Elliott at Georgia State in 2017.

Last year, former South Carolina assistant coach Buddy Pough led SC State to a Celebration Bowl victory over Jackson State. On Pough’s staff for last year’s national title was a pair of former Gamecocks. Na’Shan Goddard, another former Gamecock offensive lineman and former USC quarterback Bennett Swygert. Goddard was a member of USC from 2001-05 while Swygert played from 2002-05.

In addition to Williams, former Gamecocks wide receiver OrTre’ Smith plays for NCCU. Smith transferred into the program after being part of USC football from 2017-21. He had four receptions for 31 yards this season.
