Former South Carolina DB Addison Williams named defensive coordinator at UCF

Former South Carolina player and coach Addison Williams has joined Gus Malzahn’s University of Central Florida staff as defensive coordinator.
Williams played three seasons for the Gamecocks between 2007-2009. He played a lot as a true freshman, making appearances in 10 games. Williams capped off the year with a start against archrival Clemson.
He logged 24 career tackles and one interception in 26 games. Williams was a three-time member of the Southeastern Conference academic honor roll and received the 2009 Harold White GPA Award.

Unfortunately, Williams’s playing career was cut short due to an injury during the 2009 season. He then immediately joined Steve Spurrier’s staff as a student assistant in 2010. Williams helped that team win the first SEC East title in program history.
In 2011 he shifted to a graduate assistant coach under Spurrier. During the 2011-12 seasons, he helped South Carolina get to a 22-4 overall record and wins in both the Capital One and Outback bowls.
Williams aided in the development of All-SEC defensive backs Antonio Allen, D.J. Swearinger, and Stephon Gilmore.

Following his time at South Carolina, Williams joined the staff at NCAA Division II Tusculum University. He worked as a defensive backs coach from 2013 until being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2016.
From there, Williams accepted a job coaching cornerbacks at Furman University. He worked in that role from 2017-2018 and helped the Paladins win a share of the 2018 Southern Conference title.
