Former South Carolina EDGE Tyreek Johnson inks NFL deal

Despite battling injuries throughout his college career Tyreek Johnson’s potential proved to be too good to past up. Following the conclusion of this weekend’s NFL Draft, the versatile EDGE informed GamecockCentral that he’s been signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent.
Appearing in 26 games in six seasons at South Carolina, Johnson racked up 29 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. Being health for the majority of the season, he demonstrated why his ceiling remains so high with 3.5 of those tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks coming this past season.

Standing at 6-4, 283 pounds, Johnson is listed as an edge but has proven he’s capable of playing inside at DT if needed. It’s with that versatility, combined with a strong showing at South Carolina’s Pro Day, that helped raised his stock leading up to the draft.
