South Carolina continues to use the transfer portal to bolster its wide receiver room.

Florida State transfer receiver Vandrevius Jacobs has committed to the Gamecocks, he told GamecockCentral, after taking a two-day official visit to the school.

The 6-foot, 175-pounder committed to the South Carolina staff on Tuesday and a public announcement from Jacobs himself is expected soon.

Transfer Portal Resources:

Jacobs, a former four-star prospect who redshirted as a freshman last year, is an intriguing player in that he has a full four years of eligibility left.

He caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown last season and was still able to maintain his redshirt status.

On3 ranks Jacobs as the No. 31 wide receiver in the portal.

As a member of the class of 2023, Jacobs was a four-star recruit out of Fort Pierce (Fla.) Westwood, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 60 overall prospect in the state, the No. 52 wide receiver in the class and the No. 337 overall prospect in the class.

During the first transfer portal window of this offseason, the Gamecocks added three receivers — Gage Larvadain, Jared Brown, and Ahmari Huggins-Bruce — all of whom went through spring practice with the program.

South Carolina also recently hosted another receiver from the portal on campus for an official visit in former Nevada standout Dalevon Campbell. Chris Clark has the latest on Campbell’s recruitment for GC subscribers here. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound Campbell had 31 catches for 594 yards and two touchdowns in 2023 on his way to All-Mountain West Honorable Mention honors.

Shane Beamer on positions Gamecocks will target in portal

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said at the end of spring ball that there were primarily two positions the Gamecocks will target in the transfer portal — wide receiver and offensive line.

“Offensive line right now, based on the target number of guys that we would like to have on scholarship, we’re a couple under,” Beamer said. “Wide receiver right now, we’re a couple under. There’s some positions that we might be over, but certainly from a depth standpoint, being able to practice, have your full arsenal, receiver and offensive line are two positions. Not that I’m saying we need to get better, but just from a depth standpoint, being able to practice, have a two deep, guys on scholarship, those are positions that just we’re not where we want to be as far as the minimum number of guys that we have on scholarship.”
