Shane Beamer talks Dakereon Joyner’s health, role

After an electrifying bowl game performance to end last year, it’s been a struggle for Dakereon Joyner to get on the field this season for South Carolina
The South Carolina quarterback turned receiver multiple times over has been dealing with a calf injury and had his playing time limited because of it. But Shane Beamer reiterated Tuesday Joyner will absolutely have a role in this team when healthy.

“He’s a really good football player that’s a valuable member of all of our special teams and then a valuable member of our offense. Whether it’s wide receiver, whether it’s quarterback, whatever,” Beamer said. He’s shown that he can do that we need to continue to find ways to take that to keep him involved.”

Didn’t play in the Gamecocks’ opener against Georgia State but did log a few snaps in a loss at Arkansas.
He hasn’t recorded any stats yet, primarily laying on special teams. But his role on the team goes deeper than what someone sees on the field.
“He’s a great leader, first and foremost,” Beamer said. “I love Dakereon Joyner. He’s everything that’s right about Carolina football, and he’s a hell of a football player too.”
