Gamecock football wide receiver Eric Shaw is in the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Chris Hummer of 247Sports was the first to report Shaw’s entrance into the portal. Shaw did not see any game action during the 2021 season after transitioning from the tight end position to wide receiver. He redshirted while working with the scout team.

The news of Shaw’s entrance into the portal followed an announcement by wide receiver EJ Jenkins that he intended to enter the transfer portal, plus the word that defensive linemen Devontae Davis and Keem Green were also in the portal.

Shaw did see action in eight games for Gamecock football during true freshman campaign in 2020, mostly playing on special teams. He also saw action at linebacker to help add depth toward the end of that year. Shaw dealt with bone spurs during preseason camp, which limited him during those practice sessions.

Here’s more of Shaw’s background from his GamecocksOnline.com bio:

Graduated from Reeltown (Ala.) High School in 2020… three-sport athlete… played both wide receiver and outside linebacker on the gridiron… helped the Rebels post a 13-2 record and reach the Class 2A championship game as a senior… an Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game participant… tore an ACL during his junior season causing him to miss the last half of the football season and the basketball season… coached by Matt Johnson… averaged 20.9 points and 8.2 rebounds on the hardwood as a sophomore… was a six-time state track & field champion… won three consecutive 110-meter high hurdle titles… won three titles in the spring of 2019 (high jump, 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles) just six months removed from ACL surgery… also qualified for the state finals in the shot put… Rivals considered him the 14th-best player in the Peach State and the 16th-best tight end in the country… 247Sports Composite ranked him as the 10th-best player in Alabama, the seventh-best “athlete” in the country and No. 255 overall.
