Gamecocks make top 4 for 2023 OL target Kamen Smith
Gamecock football made the top four for 2023 Wilkesboro (NC) Wilkes Central offensive tackle recruit Kamen Smith as announced via his Twitter account on Wednesday.
Smith measures in at 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds. He has the frame to become a dominant lineman in the SEC once he puts on a little more weight.

It’s clear what Greg Adkins wants in the 2023 class and it is size. If Smith were to ultimately choose the Gamecocks, he would join four-star 6’3 310lb Trovon Baugh and 6’6 315lb JUCO commit Isaiah Jatta as the offensive line representation in the 2023 class.

Smith’s film jumps off the tape at you. In addition to the size, he brings agility and the ability to get to the second level of blocks. Smith only played in three games during his junior year due to a minor injury and COVID-19.
Smith has six Power Five offers, 15 scholarship offers in total, but all largely from in-state North Carolina schools. The big offers are from North Carolina, NC State, Appalachian State, South Carolina, Duke, and Wake Forest.
On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) analyzes a number of factors to predict where a recruit will commit. The RPM gives Smith a 4.4% chance of committing to the Gamecocks. The leader, according to the RPM, is NC State with 32.6% to land the big man.

Smith has made official visits to three of his top 4 schools, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and NC State. He also visited South Carolina unofficially in June.
Smith has visited NC State three times, while he has visited North Carolina and Virginia Tech twice.
The Gamecocks have seen an uptick in offensive line commitments since the addition of Freddie Kitchens in May. Kitchens spent has been coaching in the NFL since 2006, most recently serving as the interim offensive coordinator for the New York Giants.
The offensive line has always been considered a need for Gamecock Football. The dynamic trio of Adkins, Kitchens, and player personnel assistant Sam Serbay is starting to change that notion.
Smith is set to commit to the program of his choice on July 10th.
