Gamecocks in the NFL: Week 3 recap

While the Gamecocks earned a comfortable win at Williams-Brice Stadium over the weekend, several alumni of the South Carolina football program participated in the third week of NFL regular season action for their respective teams.

Here’s how they performed in their Week 3 contests.

AFC East

Cam Smith – Cornerback, Miami Dolphins
Smith did not record any statistics or play any snaps in the Dolphins’ 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He has yet to play for the Dolphins this year, as he was placed on short-term injured reserve ahead of the regular season on Aug. 27.

Marcellas Dial – Cornerback, New England Patriots
Dial appeared on defense for the first time this season, logging two defensive snaps in the Patriots’ 24-3 loss to the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. A frequent contributor on special teams, he also tied for the team lead with 20 snaps in that phase of the game.

Kevin Harris – Running back, New England Patriots
Harris is currently a member of the Patriots’ practice squad and did not feature in the team’s Week 3 loss.

Javon Kinlaw – Defensive tackle, New York Jets
Kinlaw registered his first sack of the season, along with one solo tackle, in the Jets’ win over the Patriots.

AFC North

Darius Rush – Cornerback, Pittsburgh Steelers
Rush did not record any statistics or play any snaps in the Steelers’ 20-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

AFC South

Chris Lammons – Defensive back, Indianapolis Colts
Lammons recorded his first defensive statistics of the season – three total tackles – in the Colts’ 21-16 win over the Chicago Bears. In addition to seven defensive snaps, he played 19 snaps on special teams.

Ernest Jones – Linebacker, Tennessee Titans
Jones was a disruptive force behind the Titans’ defensive line in the team’s 30-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers. For the second consecutive week, he led the defense in total tackles (13) – seven of which were solo stops.

AFC West

Nate Adkins – Tight end, Denver Broncos
Adkins recorded his first reception of the 2024 season, which went for a six-yard gain, in the Broncos’ 26-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played 39 total snaps in the contest – 25 on offense, and 14 on special teams.

Nick Gargiulo – Guard, Denver Broncos
Gargiulo is currently a member of the Broncos’ practice squad and did not feature in the team’s Week 3 win.

Hayden Hurst – Tight end, Los Angeles Chargers
Hurst’s streak of catching at least one pass extended to three games on Sunday in the Chargers’ Week 3 win over the Steelers. He was targeted twice, catching both passes for 15 total yards.

NFC East

Rico Dowdle – Running back, Dallas Cowboys
Dowdle out-touched and out-gained all the Cowboys’ running backs in the team’s 28-25 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He totaled 32 rushing yards on eight carries for a rushing attack that gained just 51 yards on the ground over the course of the entire game. Dowdle also was targeted five times and caught three passes for an additional 24 receiving yards.

Israel Mukuamu – Safety, Dallas Cowboys
Mukuamu did not record any statistics in his third appearance of the 2024 season. He did, however, play 20 snaps on special teams.

Jalen Brooks – Wide receiver, Dallas Cowboys
Brooks caught his lone target – a 24-yard reception, his longest play of the season – in the Cowboys’ Week 3 win.

Dante Miller – Running back, New York Giants
Miller is currently a member of the Giants’ practice squad and did not feature in the team’s 21-15 win over the Cleveland Browns.

NFC North

Zacch Pickens – Defensive tackle, Chicago Bears
After making his season debut last week, Pickens was listed as inactive on the Bears’ injury report and did not appear in the team’s Week 3 loss to the Colts. He did not practice on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday due to a groin injury, the same injury that forced him to miss the Bears’ season opener.

Kingsley Enagbare – Defensive end, Green Bay Packers
Enagbare recorded his strongest individual performance of the 2024 season in the Packers’ Week 3 loss to the Titans. He logged 1.5 of the team’s eight total sacks in the contest, in addition to one forced fumble and four total tackles (including one solo stop).

Keisean Nixon – Defensive back, Green Bay Packers
Nixon logged two solo tackles and played an additional five snaps on special teams during Week 3.

Stephon Gilmore – Cornerback, Minnesota Vikings
Gilmore made four tackles, including two solo stops, in the Vikings’ 34-7 win over the Houston Texans.

Nick Muse – Tight end, Minnesota Vikings
Muse did not record any statistics or play any snaps in the Vikings’ Week 3 win.

NFC South

Jovaughn Gwyn – Guard, Atlanta Falcons
Gwyn did not record any statistics or play any snaps in the Falcons’ 22-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

Jadeveon Clowney – Linebacker, Carolina Panthers
Clowney logged his first sack of the 2024 season, along with two total tackles (including one solo stop), in the Panthers’ 36-22 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jaycee Horn – Cornerback, Carolina Panthers
Like Clowney, Horn recorded two total tackles – one of which was a solo stop – during Week 3.

Xavier Legette – Wide receiver, Carolina Panthers
Legette had the most productive game of his NFL career in the Panthers’ Week 3 win, catching two of his three targets for 42 total yards. One of those receptions went for a 35-yard gain, which was tied for the Panthers’ longest passing play of the game.

D.J. Wonnum – Linebacker, Carolina Panthers
Wonnum remains on the physically unable to perform list, which he has been on for the entire season, while he recovers from an offseason quadriceps surgery.

Spencer Rattler – Quarterback, New Orleans Saints
Rattler did not make an appearance in the Saints’ 15-12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Adam Prentice – Running back, New Orleans Saints
Prentice did not record any statistics in the Saints’ Week 3 loss to the Eagles. But he did play seven snaps on special teams in the contest.

NFC West

Deebo Samuel Sr. – Wide receiver, San Francisco 49ers
Samuel Sr. was listed as inactive on the 49ers’ injury report and did not appear in the team’s 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Sept. 16 that the sixth-year wide receiver is set to miss “a couple” of weeks due to a calf strain, and he did not appear in practice on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
