Gamecocks in the NFL: Week 5 recap

Week 5 proved to be a good week for many Gamecocks in the NFL. Here’s a look at how some of the former South Carolina players in the league did this past weekend.

Hayden Hurst – BENGALS
After being drafted by the Ravens in the first round in 2018, Baltimore traded Hurst to Atlanta in 2020. Flash-forward to this past Sunday and Hurst showed out against his former team. The tight end had six receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Jadeveon Clowney – BROWNS
In his first game back in three weeks, Clowney showed no rust. He finished with five tackles, including four solo and three tackles for loss. He has five tackles in the three games that he’s played in this season.

Bryan Edwards – FALCONS
Prior to Sunday, Edwards had been a healthy scratch the past two weeks. Playing in just his third game this season, he hauled in one pass for ten yards. He has now appeared in three games and has two reception for 12 yards.

Damiere Byrd – FALCONS
Byrd was targeted once in the Falcons 21-15 loss Sunday against the Buccaneers. He has yet to register a reception so far this season.

J.J Enagbare – PACKERS
Enagbare had one solo tackle in the Packers 27-22 loss to the Giants in London. Through five games, the rookie has three tackles.

D.J. Wonnum – VIKINGS
Wonnum complied two tackles and forced a fumble. He was also credit with 0.5 sack.

Nick Muse – VIKINGS
Dressing in his first NFL game, Muse was elevated from the practice squad on Oct. 8 after placing TE Ben Ellefson on IR. Despite not seeing a snap from scrimmage, Muse appeared six times on the field for special teams.

Shi Smith – PANTHERS
It was a career day for Smith who caught four receptions for 69 yards. The highlight of his day came on a 31-yard reception, which is a new season-high.

Jaycee Horn – PANTHERS
The second-year defensive back only had one tackle but that’s because teams are starting to realize not to throw his way. Horn locked down fellow Gamecock Deebo Samuel and continues to be one of the premiere corner backs in the league this season.

Melvin Ingram III – DOLPHINS
Ingram was held to just one tackle in Sunday 40-17 loss against the Jets.

Deebo Samuel – 49ERS
Samuel snagged two passed for 20 yards and a touchdown. He also had 12 yards rushing on two carries. This marks back-to-back games with touchdowns with Deebo, the first time that’s happened this season.

Javon Kinlaw – 49ERS
For a second straight week Kinlaw was inactive due to a knee injury.

Stephon Gilmore – COLTS
The Rock Hill native had a huge fourth quarter interception in the end zone before breaking up a pass in the end zone in overtime to help the Colts secure the win.

Ernest Jones – RAMS
Jones finished with six tackles, including two solo. He has 35 tackles on the year.

Chris Lammons – CHIEFS
The third-year defensive back had one tackle on Monday Night Football.

Rashad Fenton – CHIEFS
Fenton had two tackles, including one solo in the Chiefs 30-29 win against the Raiders.

A.J. Cann – TEXANS
Cann once again got the start on the OL. Despite racking up only 248 yards of offense, Cann and the OL allowed just one sack.

Dennis Daley – TITANS
Daley got the start again in place of Taylor Lewan. According to PFF, Daley graded out the second worse on the Titans OL with a grade of 28.8. Here’s what Daley’s OL coach Keith Carter had to say on Monday.

Ryan Succop – BUCCANEERS
Succop was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, including a long of 44. He was converted his lone PAT for a total of seven points.

Adam Prentice – SAINTS
After being waived by the Saints on Saturday, Oct. 1, Prentice was signed to New Orleans practice squad on Oct. 4.
