Gamecocks in the XFL: Week 1 guide
Originally, I was planning on doing a similar weekly story like I did in the fall with “Gamecocks in the NFL.” Well, that plan quickly changed once I realized there’s only one former Gamecock on a roster. Unless I missed someone, the only one I saw on the official XFL rosters was Kobe Smith.

So instead, moving forward, I’ll just have weekly updates on TIF on Smith and any other Gamecocks who may join the league (if that happens). If we get to a point where there’s enough Gamecocks in the XFL then we’ll be able to turn it into a bigger story and it won’t just be a two sentence update on TIF.

For today’s Opening Day, former WLTX sportscaster and Village Idiot Pizza lover Matt Barrie will be on the call for Smith’s game on ABC. It looks like they paired him up with a former Clemson Tiger (Eric Mac Lain). Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.

My brief thoughts on the XFL. I’d love for it to work. A lot of these spring football leagues I felt like they rushed to get guys onto the field and the product sucked. Hopefully that extra time helped and most importantly, there can finally be some type of farm system for players to earn opportunities on NFL rosters. I’m not saying the product or even the talent will be better than what we see in the SEC. But rather having the opportunity to showcase their skills if they were either overlooked, cut, or got injured in the past they’ll have a chance to keep that NFL dream alive.
