Gwyn, Joyner talk future plans
The Gamecocks have a few players who still have decisions to make. A couple of them detailed their future plans Tuesday afternoon.
Both Jovaughn Gwyn and Dakereon Joyner gave a glimpse into their decision-making process during South Carolina’s availability this week.
Gwyn said he is “most likely” going to declare for the NFL Draft. Joyner also said he hasn’t made the ultimate decision yet.

“I haven’t. I have to make the best decision for my daughter and my family come March. Whatever is going to put me and my family in the best situation,” Joyner said. “We’ll see.”
Both have one more year of eligibility if they want to use it, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic that allowed players to play in 2020 without losing a year of eligibility.
It does seem, though, Gwyn will not take it and vacate the guard spot he’s held down for the last four seasons.
He’s been arguably the Gamecocks’ best offensive lineman since taking over as a full-time starter in 2019 and has logged almost 40 starts over his career.

Gwyn will almost assuredly be a draft pick in April. He will, though, play in the bowl game against Notre Dame.
“Just to come back and play one more game for this university and my teammates,” Gwyn said. “This will be the last time we’re on the same field together.”

Joyner’s decision seems to be more up in the air. He could opt to try other non-football ventures, return for his final year of eligibility or opt for something else.
He’s rushed 63 times for 317 yards, caught 42 passes for 407 yards while hauling in eight total touchdowns. He’s most remembered right now for his Duke’s Mayo Bowl MVP performance.
He, like Gwyn, will also suit up for the Gamecocks Dec. 30 in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

“I never questioned myself. Why leave? I’ve been through a lot,” he said. “Why leave now? My dad always told me to finish what you started. That’s what I’m here to do.”
Both will be part of an offense coming off its best performances of the season, putting up over 90 points and 1,000 yards in wins over Tennessee and Clemson. Nebraska poached offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield a few weeks ago.
Shane Beamer and players are playing coy on the bowl play-caller, there is still plenty of confidence in the offense.
“The offensive staff, we have good coaches,” Gwyn said. “I don’t think there’s much of a difference. Everything is going to be good.”
