In this exclusive Garnet Trust interview, Carter discusses a number of topics including what it was like to find out that head coach Frank Martin had been let go, his reaction to his teammates entering the transfer portal, his future plans, and his early impressions of new head coach Lamont Paris.
Carter, a Columbia native, entered the transfer portal last offseason to return home to play for Carolina after spending two seasons at Murray State where he averaged 9.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 21.3 minutes per game in 48 games played.
This past season, Carter scored 4.2 points per game, including a season-high 21 points versus rival Clemson, in 24 games played.
A Cardinal Newman graduate, Carter is the high school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,868 points. As a senior, he averaged 24.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game on the way to a state title.
Both of Carter’s parents played basketball at Morris College, and his sister played basketball at Furman University.

South Carolina hires Lamont Paris as new men’s basketball coach
By Collyn Taylor
It’s official: South Carolina has its new head men’s basketball coach.
The Gamecocks announced Lamont Paris as the program’s 33rd head coach Thursday, as approved by the university’s board of trustees.
“I am excited to be named the head coach at South Carolina,” Paris said in a statement. “The opportunity to build on what this program has achieved recently is exciting. While I am the head coach, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the many head and assistant coaches and student-athletes that I have worked with. I want Gamecock fans to know that we will have a program that you will be proud of and one that will compete for championships.”
