Here's how former Gamecocks are performing in 2024 in the MiLB

Many former Gamecocks have continued to shine on bigger stages since their time at South Carolina. Here’s how they are performing in Minor League Baseball.

Braylen Wimmer- Fresno Grizzlies

With the Grizzlies, Wimmer has shown signs of struggle but is greatly improving. On Tuesday, Wimmer went 3-for-5 with an RBI triple and a two-run homer.

In 2024, Wimmer is batting .286, down from last season’s .383. However the infielder has racked up 14 homers so far.

Jack Mahoney- Spokane Indians

A recent edition to the Indians after being with the Grizzlies, Mahoney’s ERA has increased since the switch. With the Grizzlies, Mahoney is pitching to a 5.19 ERA compared to 3.52 in Fresno.

Recently on August 3, Mahoney tossed six innings in his debut with the Indians. Mahoney allowed just three earned runs with three strikeouts.

Cole Messina- Spokane Indians

In his first year in the minors, Messina has struggled a little bit but may be starting to come around. In 30 at-bats, Messina has only four hits with one home run.

On Wednesday, Messina hit his first pro ball homer against the Tri-City Dust Devils. However as a catcher, Messina has started in 9 games catching 81.1 innings.

Eli Jones- Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins took Jones in the seventh round of the 2024 MLB draft. However, Jones has not been assigned a team yet and has no stats recorded in the MiLB thus far.

Garrett Gainey- FCL Rays

In the ninth round of the 2024 MLB Draft, the Tampa Bay Rays picked up and signed Garrett Gainey. Gainey was later sent to their rookie affiliate the FCL Rays but has not recorded any stats since the draft.

Chris Veach- FCL Yankees

Despite not getting selected in the draft, Veach was later signed by the New York Yankees as an undrafted free agent. Since being with the Yankees rookies affiliate, the FCL Yankees, Veach has not recorded any stats.

Will Sanders- South Bend Cubs

Since being drafted by the Cubs in 2023, Sanders has spent the majority of his MiLB career in South Bend. On the mound in 2024, Sanders has pitched to a 4.38 ERA in 21 games pitched.

In 84.1 innings, the lengthy right-handed pitcher has a 2-7 record in the 2024 season. Recently, Sanders recorded a career-high eight strikeouts on August 16.

James Hicks- Corpus Christi Hooks

With the Houston Astros Double-A affiliate, Hicks has thrown a 6-4 record in 22 games thus far in 2024. Since being drafted in 2023, Hicks has pitched for four different teams in the Astros organization, consistently moving up their ranks.

So far in 2024, Hicks has 102 strikeouts in 95.1 innings. On August 21, Hicks picked up six strikeouts, which got him to over 100 on the season.

Noah Hall- Brooklyn Cyclones

After being drafted by the Mets in 2023, Hall now finds himself on the 60-day injury list. Before this, Hall had a 10.50 ERA in 12 innings in 2024.

Cade Austin- Tampa Tarpons

Austin was assigned to the Tarpons on April 3 and has thrown 43.0 innings in 2024. As a right-handed pitcher, Austin has pitched to a 3.98 ERA with a 2-3 record.

Brady Allen- Erie SeaWolves

An active outfielder drafted in 2021, Allen has racked up eight homers so far in 2024. At the plate, Allen has seen 319 at-bats, batting .210 with 39 RBIs.

Josiah Sightler- Greensboro Grasshoppers

With the High-A Affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Sightler has seen action in 76 games so far in the 2024 season. At the plate, Sightler is batting a low .195 with a .287 OBP.

At first base, he has started 59 games. As a designated hitter, he has started seven games so far in 2024.

Luke Berryhill- Sugar Land Space Cowboys

Five years since being drafted, Berryhill remains with the Astros Triple-A affiliate, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Behind the plate, Berryhill has caught 296 innings in 33 games started.

The catcher is batting .234 with a .332 OBP on the year. In addition, Berryhill has six homers and 30 RBIs in 2024.

Julian Bosnic- Greensboro Grasshoppers

As a member of the Pirates High-A affiliate, Bosnic has a 2-3 record in 2024. On the bump, he has a 3.58 ERA in 32.3 innings with 31 strikeouts.

Jonah Bride- Miami Marlins

Bride spent some of the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. In Jacksonville, he was batting .267 in 2024 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs.

Bride was called up to the Marlins on May 4 after Luis Arráez was traded. So far with the Marlins, Bride is batting .258 with five homers and 22 RBIs.

Colin Burgess- West Michigan Whitecaps

As a member of the Detroit Tigers High-A affiliate, the catcher remains on the 60-day injury list and has not seen any action in 2024.

Noah Campbell- Nashville Sounds

Campbell, a 2017 draft pick, is currently listed on the player development list. In 2024, Campbell has batted .237 while knocking three homers out of the park.

Most recently, Campbell came up big with a two-RBI single to help his team secure a win on June 19.

Wes Clarke- Nashville Sounds

With the Brewers Triple-A affiliate, Clarke has put on a show at the plate batting .248 with 16 homers and 57 RBIs. Most recently on August 28, Clarke performed big with three hits and two RBIs in four at bats.

Carlos Cortes- Syracuse Mets

The outfielder has batted .244 thus far in 2024 with nine home runs and 37 RBIs. Cortes has started 17 games in left field and 34 in right. On June 29, Cortes put on a show with a pair of homers against the Buffalo Bisons.

Eddy Demurias- Chattanooga Lookouts

After being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2018, Demurias currently resides with their Double-A affiliate, the Chattanooga Lookouts. However, Demurias is currently listed on the team’s 60-day injury list.

Thomas Farr- Chattanooga Lookouts

Another member of the Lookouts, Farr has a 1-15 record in 2024. In 115.1 innings pitched, Farr has thrown a 4.84 ERA with 77 strikeouts.

TJ Hopkins- Erie SeaWolves 

After hitting a pair of two run homers on July 22, Hopkins finds himself on the full season injury list. Before this, Hopkins was batting .190 with four RBIs and just two home runs.

Brett Kerry- Rocket City Trash Pandas

On July 11, Kerry was moved from the Salt Lake Bees to the Trash Pandas for the 2024 season. Kerry has earned a 4-4 record with 120 strikeouts and a 4.61 ERA.

On August 17, Kerry logged 10 strikeouts. He followed it up with nine more on August 23.

Daniel Lloyd- Aberdeen IronBirds

With a 2-4 record for the IronBirds, Lloyd owns a 5.69 ERA in 49 innings in 2024. Lloyd was called up to the Bowie Baysox for one game on August 23 before being sent back down to Aberdeen.

Reid Morgan- Arkansas Travelers

As a member of the Mariners Double-A Affiliate, Morgan has a 1-3 record and 5.18 ERA. In 41.2 innings, he has racked up 36 strikeouts.

Max Schrock- Free agent

As a former member of the San Diego Padres Triple-A affiliate, Schrock has not recorded any stats in 2024 and remains a free agent.

TJ Shook- Binghamton Rumble Ponies

On July 21, Shook was traded by the Brewers to the New York Mets where he was assigned to the Rumble Ponies. In 2024, Shook has a 7-8 record with a 4.29 ERA and 94 strikeouts.
