How players who transferred out of South Carolina performed in 2022
With this year’s transfer portal approaching 1,200 FBS players, how green will the grass be on the other side for some of these players? While only time will tell we went back to look at how things worked out for the players who transferred out of South Carolina for the 2022 season.
This is part two to a two-part series where we’re review both players South Carolina gained and loss through the transfer portal. While some of these player’s made an immediate impact, others were brought into programs in hopes to compete for a large role in the future. In addition, some players have re-entered the transfer portal again.
According to On3’s transfer portal database, 19* players transferred out of South Carolina prior to the start of the 2022 season.

ATH – Eric Shaw (Troy)
Shaw transferred to Troy and is listed as a WR. He appeared in nine games but did not record a stat, according to Troy’s official team website.
OL – Jazston Turnetine (Florida State)
After starting in seven games for the Gamecocks in 2021, the redshirt senior appeared in 12 games and started in eight this season for Florida State.
WR – Rico Powers Jr. (Jackson State)
The wide out had 22 receptions for 204 yards and three touchdowns at Jackson State. He also rushed for four yards on one carry.
OL* – William Rogers (McNeese State)
Originally listed as an OL at USC, Rogers flipped to the other side of the ball at Murray State. As a DL, he appeared in 11 games and had 11 tackles. He was also credited with 0.5 a sack.

EDGE* – Devontae Davis (Virginia)
In 2021, Davis played in eight games at USC at EDGE. In his first season at Virginia, he moved over to NT and played in eight games. He had three tackles in the regular season.
WR – EJ Jenkins (Georgia Tech)
Jenkins finished the season appearing in nine games for Georgia Tech. He had 17 receptions for 316 yards and three touchdowns.
LB – Jahmar Brown (Coastal Carolina)
The linebacker played in seven games in the regular season and had 21 tackles. He also had three sacks and recovered a fumble.
LB – Kolbe Fields (LSU)
While Fields played in seven more games this year than he did in 2021 at USC (11), Fields has entered the transfer portal, again after just one season at LSU. He had four tackles.
WR – OrTre Smith (NC Central)
Smith had four receptions for 31 yards for the Eagles.

WR* – Dominick Hill (Temple)
Hill moved to DB at Temple. He appeared in 11 games and had 29 tackles and defended four passes.
OL – Vincent Murphy (Western Kentucky)
Murphy appeared in every game this season for Western Kentucky. He recently reentered the transfer portal.

QB – Jason Brown (Virginia Tech)
Brown played in just three games for Virginia Tech. He was 7-for-13 for 65 yards. He has entered the transfer portal, again but will need to be granted approval from the NCAA for a seventh year of eligibility.
WR* – Keveon Mullins (Jackson State)
Despite transferring into Jackson State this past February, Mullins does not appear on the Tigers roster on the team’s official website.
CB – Karon Prunty (NC A&T)
While Prunty’s time at USC ended before it really even began, he played this past season at NC A&T. The DB appeared in ten games and had 30 tackles and four interceptions. He also had three pass breakups.

LB – Sean McGonigal
According to On3’s database, McGonigal did not play in 2022 after entering the transfer portal
DL – Jahkeem Green (Florida Atlantic)
Green had 13 tackles in six games played this season for the Owls.
WR – Ger-Cari Caldwell (NC A&T)
Appearing in ten games, Caldwell had 15 receptions for 150 yards.
WR – Sam Reynolds (Towson)
Reynolds had 11 receptions for 51 yards this past season for Towson. He also added eight carries for 24 yards.
LB – Rosendo Louis (Bethune-Cookman)
In nine games played, Louis had 61 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one force fumble, and one fumble recovery.
**On3’s database has OL Jordan Rhodes as leaving in 2022. Rhodes left prior to the start of the 2021 season. He played this past season at Arkansas State.
