How the offense and defense spent the second bye week of the season

With schedule changes made prior to the start of the 2024 season, South Carolina received two bye weeks with the second coming after the win over Oklahoma. However, the impact of the second bye week was slightly different between offense and defense.
Against the Sooners, the South Carolina defense put on a show, holding them to just nine points. In total, the defense recorded nine sacks and 13 tackles for loss.
However, many worried that after a dominate week, the bye week would kill the positive momentum built on the defense. But assured by defensive coordinator Clayton White, there is still work to be done even without a game.
“Last week was our relentless pursuit to improvement,” White said. “Trying to get better every single opportunity we can. Our guys were locked in last week, we had a couple workout days and a couple practice days.”

The real work began right away preparing for a strong Aggie offense and pass game. Texas A&M is currently undefeated in the SEC with two strong quarterbacks who could both play on Saturday.
“But it’s great to have them back this week getting ready for our opponent, White said. “Obviously, the clock started really fast on Saturday night after the game between LSU and A&M when we got to work and ready to go.”

For the offense, the work scouting Texas A&M also began right away. Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains touched on the balance between focusing on work within the team and focusing on the Aggies.
“You always go back and you split it between self scout and getting ready for Texas A&M,” Loggains said. “You want to make sure that you’ve looked at all your tendencies, you make sure you’ve planned all your strengths. Go through and try and figure out why good things are happening and why bad things are happening and you fix them.”
The offense continues to work on areas of improvement before facing a top 10 team. However, resting is also crucial for players performance and strength.
“The schedule’s a little bit different this week,” Loggains said. “Dove in on Monday to just football and the players had the day off so we’re able to grind through probably more than we were the last bye week so we’re please with where we’re at this point with the work that we got done during that time. I feel like we improved and got better at some areas and there’s definitely improvement thats needed.”
