Decision day has arrived for Camden (S.C.) class of 2023 four-star defensive tackle and priority South Carolina football target Xzavier McLeod.

McLeod will announce his decision Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on Camden’s home field at Zemp Stadium.

Gamecock Central will be on hand for the announcement and plans to provide a live stream, assuming the connection holds up.

The 6-foot-4.5, 325-pounder has an official final four of South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Michigan, but told Chad Simmons on Wednesday that he was torn between two schools.

While McLeod did not name the two schools, it’s all but a lock that the two schools are South Carolina and Georgia.

“It’s a hard choice to pick at the end of the process,” he told On3 on Wednesday. “I think I just have to lock in and focus. I usually pray so God can give me that little sign to see where I fit in. I visited the schools multiple times, so I think I’ll have an instinct before I commit. I have a good feel for all four schools, where I need to play and what type of environment I need to play in.”

The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies – has McLeod as the No. 189 overall prospect, No. 24 DL, and No. 3 in-state prospect in his class.

McLeod is being recruited to the Gamecocks by defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has the Gamecocks as the favorite, giving South Carolina a 76.4 percent chance of landing McLeod and UGA a 17.6 percent chance of stealing him from the Palmetto State.

In June, when the four-star defensive lineman cut his list down to six options, he shared thoughts on each of the schools with On3’s Jeremy Johnson.

South Carolina: “The home school has the advantage. You will always be loved by your hometown and I think Shane Beamer is really building a program. That’s a good environment to be in.”

Georgia: “Coach Tray Scott is a hard-working coach. He’s definitely putting guys in the league that wants to work hard for it. That’s the same with all the schools that I’m dealing with.”

If the Gamecocks are able to hold off the Bulldogs, McLeod would be the 18th commitment in South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 20 in the On3 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

A McLeod pledge would also give South Carolina three of the top four prospects in the state of South Carolina according to the On3Consensus to go along with Dorman High’s Markee Anderson and Sumter’s Monteque Rhames. He would also be the eighth four-star commitment in the Gamecocks’ class.
