Jovaughn Gwyn selected in 2023 NFL Draft

South Carolina offensive guard Jovaughn Gwyn was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 225 overall pick (seventh round) of the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday.

A four-year starter and two-time team captain, the former four-star prospect from Harding University High School in Charlotte, N.C. took over as a starting guard in Week 2 of his redshirt freshman season and then never left the starting lineup for the rest of that season and the three following.

Gwyn’s 47 career starts (all consecutive) is fourth on the school’s all-time list for total starts and second for consecutive starts.

As a fifth-year senior this past season, Gwyn was named to the Coaches’ Second Team All-SEC squad and Phil Steele’s fourth-team All-SEC team.

He was also awarded the Outstanding Student-Athlete Award, Strength & Conditioning Award, and the Most Outstanding Senior Award by the football program.

A former four-star prospect, Gwyn was considered the No. 366 overall prospect and No. 23 interior offensive lineman as well as the No. 13 prospect in North Carolina in the class of 2018, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

2021 (Redshirt Junior)
Right guard who started all 13 games… selected by his teammates at one of five Rex Enright permanent team captains for the season… served as a game captain against Eastern Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn and North Carolina… selected by the Carolina coaches as one of three Strength & Conditioning Award winners… consistently graded out as the Gamecocks’ top offensive lineman… named the SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week for his efforts in the win over Auburn… earned the Gamecock Toughness Award in the spring… named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
