Kamaar Bell making most of opportunity to be back in the SEC playing at South Carolina
After starting his college football career off at Auburn, Kamaar Bell is back in the SEC at South Carolina.
The sixth-year offensive lineman ended up at Florida Atlantic for three seasons after only playing one game at Auburn. Eventually, Bell wanted to get back to the SEC and show he could compete at this level.

“It’s great,” Bell said. “It’s really what I dreamed about when I left the SEC the first time, when I left Auburn. I knew I had a plan to try to get back up here, so I just had to put my head down for the last three years and just get to work.”
Throughout his time in college football, Bell has been a flexible player on the offensive line playing multiple positions. His versatility makes him an asset to the ever changing Gamecocks offensive line. He’s seen a lot of the first-team reps on the line so far in fall camp.
“I’m plugged in at left guard right now,” Bell said. “Pretty much that’s where I’ve been the whole spring, summer. Started camp working a little center just to get some reps at it. But pretty much that’s pretty much it.”

As a group, the offensive line was far from good in 2023, dealing with injuries among other issues. While Bell wasn’t here last season, he and the entire group spent the month of May together in Columbia to get a jump start above the rest.
“We were up here everyday, nonstop,” Bell said. “Just doing extra work, going through our steps, going through our sets, path sets, all of that. Getting in the meeting room and just watching over things that we did in the spring.”
From what Bell has seen since he transferred to South Carolina, the O-line has made big strides to improve. With the season a little over a week away, he feels good about where they’re at and expects to see a difference in the protection upfront.
“So far I feel like we’ve been getting better since the first day we got here,” Bell said. “More consistency, guys are knowing what to do now and everybody’s trying to fall in like with each other. I feel like we could do more, stay more consistent. But we’re going on the right track right now.”
