LaHeisman? On3 ranks LaNorris Sellers in Heisman Trophy Poll after Saturday's performance
Let the LaHeisman campaign (un)officially begin.
South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers has been the talk of the town after a memorable performance against Clemson on Saturday. The redshirt freshman was primarily responsible for delivering a 17-14 comeback win with 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns, the second of which came with 1:08 to go in the fourth quarter to give the Gamecocks their first lead.

In the aftermath of the win, head coach Shane Beamer was quick to appoint Sellers as the “best player in the country” live on national television. Then in his postgame press conference, he made it clear that Heisman Trophy voters need to vote for his star player.
“If you’re not voting for that guy, for in the mix for the Heisman Trophy, you’re out of your minds,” Beamer said on Saturday. “Name a player in the country that’s done more than that kid has this year, particularly today, in the environments that he’s done it in.”
Truth be told, Sellers won’t win the coveted award this year, much less be named a finalist. But he has picked up some steam late in the season. On Monday, On3 released its Heisman Trophy Poll, featuring the Top 10 player rankings after Week 14. Sellers made the cut at No. 10.
“Sellers has South Carolina on the cusp of playoff contention, needing some definite help but within striking distance if enough breaks the right way. And oh what could have been for the Gamecocks, who lost heart-breakingly close games against LSU and Alabama,” On3’s Thomas Goldkamp writes.

“The quarterback has led the charge with his dual-threat ability. Sellers came through in the clutch against Clemson, delivering the game-winning 20-yard touchdown run. He has 655 yards rushing and seven touchdowns now, to go along with 2,274 yards passing and 17 touchdowns.”

With the Heisman ceremony less than two weeks away, it’s likely that the award will either go to Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter or Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. But the buzz is certainly there for Sellers to make a run at winning the trophy in 2025 as a redshirt sophomore.
The 2024 Heisman Trophy ceremony is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 on ESPN. Finalists for this year’s award will be announced on Monday, Dec. 9.
