With 40 days to go until the start of the regular season, South Carolina men’s basketball officially started team practices on Monday.

On Wednesday, head coach Lamont Paris updated how the Gamecocks are looking from an injury standpoint and said the team is “pretty good right now.” However, the team did have one injury towards the end of the summer.

“One of the last workouts of the summer, Arden Conyers, who was a redshirt freshman for us last year, a Columbia product, had twisted his ankle,” Paris said on Carolina Calls with Derek Scott. “And so he was out four, five, six weeks and has gotten back into it. He’s not 100 percent yet but he’s able to go live 5-on-5.”

Conyers didn’t play at all last year as he ended up redshirting, along with his teammate Austin Herro.

Coming out of high school, Conyers was a three-star recruit and the consensus No. 3 player in the state of South Carolina in the class of 2023. He played at nearby Westwood High and averaged 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game as a senior.

Otherwise, South Carolina seems to be in good shape with injuries, according to Paris.

“We’re pretty injury free — knock on wood,” Paris said. “It’s been a good summer and preseason for us that way. And so just looking to get things rolling.”
