Lamont Paris on Myles Stute: 'He's going to be a really good player for us'
In the short time Lamont Paris has been around Myles Stute, he’s been impressed to say the least.
“I feel really fortunate to have him in our camp and on our team,” Paris said at SEC Basketball Media Day. “He’s just an experienced guy, he’s emotionally stable as a player. He’ll just do whatever you ask him to do.”
Stute enters his first season at South Carolina after playing with Vanderbilt for three years. He was one of four transfers to join the Gamecocks, including BJ Mack from Wofford, Stephen Clark from The Citadel and Ta’Lon Cooper from Minnesota.

Stute averaged 8.4 points per game on 34.7 percent shooting and 36.1 percent from three last year with the Commodores.
However, he was statistically better as a sophomore when he averaged 8.5 points per game. The main difference was found in how often he was hitting shots. He shot 44.8 percent and 43.2 percent from beyond the arc.
With all that experience, Paris thinks it will serve Stute and the team well heading into the season.

“He’s been around this league. He knows the style of play from other teams, has been in all these venues before. The value of that is extremely high,” Paris said.

Since arriving in Columbia, Stute has done nothing but work. Paris called him a “really, really dedicated worker.”
“He stays in the gym and works really hard at his game. He’s a great listener. He tries to learn anything that he can,” he said.

Paris undoubtedly has high expectations for what he believes Stute can do for the Gamecocks. But he said they’ll try to add some more things to his game to make him that much better.
“My expectations for him will be to continue to be a good shooter, improve some things that can help him improve his percentages, to be an aggressive guy for us, to have a leadership role and to lead by example. I think he’s going to be a really good player for us,” Paris said.
