South Carolina fans 'should be excited' about QB LaNorris Sellers
On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power joined Wes Mitchell and Chris Clark on Tuesday’s edition of GC Live to go into great detail on USC quarterback signee LaNorris Sellers.
Power’s On3 rankings have consistently had Sellers ranked higher than the rest of the industry, with the South Florence standout currently checking in at number 156 overall nationally.
“The more you learn about him, the more impressive it is,” Power said. “He’s a guy that, if you peel back the layers, you realize he has all these positive indicators. Whether it’s how good a student he is, he’s really good at soccer, the production, the athleticism. I think what really surprises people is just how strong his arm is.”

The first time Power saw Sellers was at a camp setting, where he performed alongside nationally-ranked talents such as Arch Manning, Nico Iamaleava, and Christopher Vizzina.
“I thought he looked on par with those national prospects despite having not quite the recruiting attention they did,” said Power.
That officially put the Palmetto State product on the map for On3, with plans to track him heavily during his junior season. Indeed, LaNorris Sellers got off to a big start in 2021 prior to sustaining a season-ending injury.

As a senior, Sellers turned in one of the most impressive seasons of any quarterback in the country, with over 4,200 yards and over 65 total touchdowns.
“I think he would have done the same thing as a junior, he just unfortunately had that injury. It was more of matter of when, not if,” Power explained.
While the veteran scout thought that Sellers would have a big year as a senior, the Gamecock signee took things to another level.

“I had expectations for him, but he blew my expectations out of the water. He’s a guy South Carolina fans should definitely be excited about. From following South Carolina prospects from the state over the years, he’s as good a quarterback I’ve seen as a high school player and prospect since I’ve been tracking it, 20 years or so,” Power said.

When it comes to player comparisons for Sellers, Power threw out several names that are all NFL players.
“I think the play style as a high school player reminds me of Jalen Hurts a little bit with just how he was used as a runner,” he said. “Sellers is bigger and has a stronger arm at the same stage. Hurts was a little more technical, mechanical, a passer. From a body type perspective, he’s kind of in that Trey Lance, Deshaun Watson type guy. He’s a lot bigger than Deshaun Watson was in high school. It will be interesting to see where he ends up from a size perspective. I’ve seen people throw out Dak Prescott as well. From an upside perspective, you’d maybe go with Watson. From a body type, Trey Lance, and as a high school player he reminds me the most of Jalen Hurts.”

While Power and his team already are quite high on Sellers from a rankings standpoint, he admitted there’s some room to continue moving up from the last update.
“He’s had three games since then, the Shrine Bowl. He’s not going down. If he moves, it’s going to be going up. I’d imagine he’ll be going up at least a little, if not more than a little.”
South Florence captured its first state title in a men’s sport in large part thanks to Sellers’ leadership. That fact is not lost on Power, either.
“He’s a historic athlete there and in Florence in general,” he said. “When you look at quarterbacks, are they a truck or trailer? He was driving the team. If you watched them play, everything was centered around him.”
