Three practices into spring, the post-Spencer Rattler era in South Carolina is off and running.

A year after playing behind Rattler, redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers is applying the lessons he learned from the NFL hopeful to his own game.

“Confidence. If you make a decision be firm with your decision,” said Sellers. “Don’t hesitate, don’t second guess yourself. Spencer was always like, **made straight line gesture with his hand from left to right** He wasn’t too high or ever too low. So I just try to take that from him of just being composed all the time.”

Instilling confidence into Sellers’ decision making has been a focal point that offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has been working on with the young quarterback ever since he arrived at South Carolina last January.

“Be firm with my decision making. Don’t second guess, like I said earlier. That was one thing last year. I was always jerky, if that makes sense. I would see something, I would hesitate, and then I’d be late because I’d still try to make (the throw). If you make a decision, just stick with it.”

Sellers appeared in three games this past season as a true freshman, which allowed him to preserve his redshirt. He completed all four of his pass attempts for 86 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 51 yards on five carries, including a 36-yard touchdown. While limited in action, his playmaking ability has led this fanbase to want more in 2024.

While many believe Sellers will be the Week 1 starter at quarterback, he’s taking a page out of Rattler’s playbook by staying level headed and focus.

“Anything can happen. I can go out there and not do what I’m expected to do and lose a spot. Not really even losing a spot because nothing is set in stone yet. You just have to try to get better every single day.”
