LaNorris Sellers trying to learn everything he can from older quarterbacks
LaNorris Sellers knows the deal. He knows his time might not come right now.
Odds are he won’t play much under center in 2023. Spencer Rattler will all but helm those duties this year. Though, that hasn’t stopped him from working hard like he’s going to be starting week one.
“I got here early in the spring. Just now, I’m more confident. I’m slowing down for a little bit, having a little more fun. But it feels good to be around the team, getting to know everybody, get closer with the coaching staff. It’s a good experience,” Sellers said at the Gamecock Central Kickoff Party at Steel Hands Brewing on Saturday.

In some ways, this new reality hasn’t all set in for Sellers yet. After all, he is a wide-eyed freshman trying to soak it all in.
“When we get into this week of fall camp, last week was important but it was a little bit slower, still getting used to everything. But now it’s like, the season is two weeks away. It’s really here,” he said.
In hindsight, it’s unclear what Sellers’ role will be. There’s always a chance the Gamecocks could find a way to use his speed in a different capacity for the time being, as more of a wildcat quarterback.

If that time comes, he’ll be ready for it. For now, he’s tried to learn as he can from the veterans in the quarterback room.

“Luke helped me during the spring, and then I had a previous relationship with Luke at training camp. He didn’t really talk much before I got but now we can just talk everyday,” Sellers said about Doty.
“He’s very enthusiastic, loud. He don’t care, he’s going to be himself. That’s one thing you need to know about Luke: he’s going to say what he thinks and be himself.”

Unsurprisingly, Sellers has also been up around Rattler plenty in camp. The biggest thing he’s learned from him is how to be confident. It’s a quality many of his teammates have noticed about him from the get-go.
“He’ll make mistakes and just take accountability for it, just move on from it, forget about it. Just big next play mentality,” Sellers said.
